Someone in the shop today who bought a rooibus thai smoothie asked if rooibus came from a root vegetable. I thought it came from a bush since it is also known as red bush tea. So my internet search turned up the following definition:

Rooibos is only grown in a small area in the Cederberg region of the Western Cape province. The leaves are oxidized or fermented to produce the distinctive reddish-brown color. The flavor is sweet and slightly nutty. Preparation of Rooibos tea is essentially the same as black tea save that the flavor is improved by longer brewing. The resulting brew is a reddish brown color, perhaps explaining why Rooibos is sometimes referred to as "red tea."

I am satisfied that it does not come from vegetable because of my google search. Best thing I learned is that two cups of rooibos equals the daily alloted quotient of vitamin C. It has no caffeine so it can be consumed during the day.

  1. I would say Rooibos is a plant, right? But it does taste very fruity to me.

Would you post your hours under "About My Business."
